A letter to the editor from a Plymouth resident – Is Ginny Klevorn misleading our Seniors/Voters?
I read that Ginny Klevorn has voted against eliminating the tax on Social Security for our seniors. But then, I read in her campaign literature that Ginny has co-authored a bill (HF2788) to eliminate the tax on Social Security. What does Ginny support?
I needed to research the bills in question.
The Republicans had introduced a bill to eliminate the tax on Social Security on January 31, 2021 (HF 26). The Democrat led Tax Committee did not act on it. Exactly one year later, January 31, 2022, the Democrats introduced an identical bill, HF2788, which, along with HF 26 was heard by the Tax Committee on March 23, 2022. At that time the bills were laid over for possible inclusion in the Tax Omnibus bill. The Omnibus bill passed by the House did NOT include a complete elimination of the Social Security tax.
Ginny Klevorn signed on to HF2788 on May 21, 2022, two days before the end of the Minnesota State Legislature session on May 23, 2022. Ginny Klevorn signed on to a bill (HF2788) that was already, for all practical purposes, dead. What it did allow Rep. Ginny Klevorn to do was give her the ability to say she co-authored a bill to eliminate the tax on Social Security.
It is time for new leadership at the Capitol. Politics as usual will give us the same broken system. That is why I support Jackie Schroeder to be our next House Representative in SD42B, Plymouth/Medicine Lake.
